hi everyone!

What is it about 70lbs aka 5 stone to lose? Is it cos it's a nice round number?
I was working out the kg as well - to see if I was 'allowed' on here!!

I live in Scotland, in the Highlands, and first started losing weight when I was about 14, some 40 years ago. I've tried hundreds of diets with 2-3 successes. A diet only works for me once, eg WW, lighter life. Once the weight starts creeping back on, that's the damage done!

I was on the pre-op diet before having a Gastric Band fitted when I first heard about Dukan. I liked Atkins (a wee success there!) so I bought the Dukan diet book from amazon, read it twice and cancelled my Gastric Band!!

I paid £322 to 'do' the Dukan Diet online. I was a bit wary about putting the money upfront, but it was much, much cheaper than the Band would've been! So far, apart from a question Iposted elsewhere on this forum about exercise, I'm quite happy with what I'm getting.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and sharing our journey together

My sister is due to have a gastric band in about 3 weeks. It will cost her $18,000 in New Zealand. Other health issues make weight loss urgent for her. I'm on the Dukan and into my 5th week now. It will be interesting to see who has the fastest and most permanent weight loss. Good on you for giving it a go.

wow! I thought Gastric bands were expensive here in the UK! I hope everything goes okay for her and that the band helps with her other health issues!

My reason for getting a Band was because it was a last resort. I'd tried everything else-then along came Dr Dukan, (on his white charger lol) to save me from myself!!

Let me know how she gets on.

Bluebird - 70lbs to lose Empty Week one.

Post  bluebird Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:56 am

Well, that's week 1 nearly over!

To be honest it almost never got started................
Dear sweet husband decided we'd go out for lunch on day 1. . . . . . 'Fine, I can cope with that' I thought, but we went to the nicest place in the area for lunch!!! I was so angry that I ordered a glass of wine, Twisted Evil just to annoy him (lol), then a second one! I had the roast beef and veg, scrapping off gravy and pushing tatties and yorkshire pud aside.

When we went home I carried on with the wine and eventually started on chocolate!
That was Day 1!

The rest of the week has been okay, apart from Thursday when I was at a friend's house for pizza and (more) wine! I'm mananging to stick to PP or PL. I was surprised I wasn't longer on Attack, but as I'm following it online, I'm going by what the Doc says. It is good knowing I'm going to be having vegetables every second day. Mullerlight fat-free yoghurts are my saviour as they satisfy my sweet tooth!
I managed to find Fat-reduced cocoa powder in Tesco so I'm going to start trying some of the allowed chocolate recipes.

Will be back tomorrow with weight loss

Wouldnt it be lovely if wine was a phase? I love my reds but its all or nothing for me.... at least for a while seeing I am only on day one. I am hoping my partner stays on it with me but he is sooooo hungry. I think we will need a second mortgage to pay for the food. Isnt it interesting that bad food ie fat food ie chips, pasta, rice etc are the cheapest hmmm
I like reading progress and i think thats what will keep me motivated apart from the eventual weight loss Very Happy

Bluebird - 70lbs to lose Empty Week one done!

Post  bluebird Sun Jul 11, 2010 10:41 am

hi folks
That's me finished the first week and have lost 7.25lbs! I.m pleased with that!

But, was disappointed cos I took dogs for 2 long walks yesterday, one for 80 mins and the other for 100 mins and only lost 0.25lbs!! How sad is that!

I reckoned I scuppered myself on Thursday with the wine and pizza-lovely at the time, but that was 3 lbs back on the next day, so a lesson learned there, methinks!

This coming week will be harder as we're off to Aberdeen for 3 days this week, and I'm already making arrangements to catch up with family and friends. I'm thinking of sun, Mon and Tuesday 3 days being PP, and then days in Aberdeen being on PL which will give me more options.

Will keep you posted

Bluebird - 70lbs to lose Empty week 2 done

Post  bluebird Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:35 am

Hi
We were away for a few days in Aberdeen, but came back on friday.

I can't say I was 100% brilliant when I was away, mainly because of the wine in the evenings! But, I did have a few chicken salads, 2 coffeelight frappacchinos (which won't be allowed really) and a calzone (def not allowed, but very yum!)

So back home again and back on track yesterday so weighed myself today and have lost 0.5 lb for the week.
I'm a tad disappointed, but that's going to make me more focussed, and am going to record everything on here each day - Piper-style!!
I'm also going to cut down on smooth mullerlight yoghurts. I can eat 3 as a pudding! I know they're unlimited, but that's ridiculous!
Maybe just buy ONE each day . . . . . .

Here we go
Breakfast: 2 eggs, fried in spray oil
1 Vanilla ML yoghurt with oatbran
2 ML yoghurts (cos they were there)

Lunch: chicken stuffed with haggis, wrapped in bacon, red cabbage and green beans (husband took me out for lunch again - bless him!)

tea: 1 grilled burger
1 ML yoghurt vailla and
choc

Fluids so far: 1 redbush tea
2 coffee with skim milk
1.0 lit water
0.5 sparkling water
wine

Hi,
hope everyone's getting on fine

Here's today's stats, food and drink

Day 14
Yesterday's loss: 1lb
total loss: 8.5lb

Lunch: mince, with carrots and turnip, and brocolli (husband took me out for lunch again - bless him!)

tea: 2 lightly smoked salmon fillets
1 ML yoghurt raspberry and cranberry

Fluids: 2 coffee with skim milk
2 black coffee
2.0 lit water

I'm off to Edinburgh for 2 days this week with my son, daughter in law and grandchildren. I'm hoping it won't be all pizzas and burgers!
There's a carvery attached to the hotel, so i think we're eating there in the evening- that sounds okay, so does the continental breakfast. I had all good intentions going away last week so we'll see what Wednesday/Thursday brings!

Bluebird - 70lbs to lose Empty Day 18

Post  bluebird Fri Jul 23, 2010 12:49 pm

hi
Days 16 and 17 were spent in Edinburgh where I went for days days with my son and his family. no computer access, which was probably just as well!
We had a lovely time, nice hotel, good food, lots of wine - you can guess! Twisted Evil
Well, I weighed myself this morning and have put on 2lbs which i kind of expected Crying or Very sad

What I didn't expect though was to feel so bad emotionally today. I feel really down, low! I've just been reading 'Potatoes not Prozac' by Kathleen DesMaisons - not that I'm going to follow her plan, because I prefer this one-but a lot of what she said about sugar-sensitivity made lots of sense and fits in with what I'm doing with Dukan. Maybe it's made me more aware of why I'm feeling crap, instead of just accepting it without realising why.
Does anybody else have thoughts about this?

xx

Day 18 - Cruise - PP (Attack really!)
Weight - 209.5 lbs
Daily Loss - 2 lb ON!
Total Loss - 8 lb

Breakfast: galette and 2 scrambled eggs
lunch:
tea:

Bluebird - 70lbs to lose Empty re: feeling like crap

Post  hlinds Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:26 pm

I am sorry you are feeling down today, it might be the sugar in take from the wine or it might just be the "blahs". The older I get the more I seem to have - I am not real old, 42 to be exact but I have experience so many changes after my 40th birthday it has been quite disturbing at times. Crying or Very sad My weight too has gone up and down on this diet but I am still happy with the progress I have made. I have lost 10 pounds since June 28th, 30 more to go and I will be at my "true weight" of 142. I will do it, just hope I can do it by my goal date of November 1st. Continue to enjoy your family and look to them for support. Take care and well wishes to you. Heidi

Sorry to hear you feel depressed. It may be as simple as something you were planning and putting thought into is now over. That happens to me all the time. My solution used to be chocolate and then do something different. Now, without the chocolate (which actually extends the down time), I prepare ahead with a new plan. I spend a day reflecting on the good times that are just over or the goal accomplished, while already building the foundation for another plan or project. Recently I trained for a tai chi tournament and actually came home with two gold medals. Before the blahs could take a good hold, I started digging up part of the backyard to make a vege garden. That worked - mostly. I still had a few teary attacks but at least the next thing was happening. Hope you feel on top again soon.

Bluebird - 70lbs to lose Empty xoxox's

Post  hlinds Tue Aug 03, 2010 7:00 pm

Bluebird,

Stay strong and true to yourself, do not use the words "I am going to give up" - you are setting yourself up for failure. I did not lose any weight for over a week and then some very wise people (from this site) encouraged me on, told me to eat more meat (heck more protein all together), drink more water, and be positive and then I lost some more. I have found from reading all of these blogs that not one person is alike in the way they lose the weight. MM is a great example she has lost over 30lbs while others have lost only a few here or there. (I am the few here and there)

I think gaining will power and personal strength is also part of the diet - we are teaching ourselves to be strong and overcome our powerful urges which led us to this diet in the first place. I think not having real bread in over a week, a month, or several months is a great accomplishment.

Remember the book says - your body will fight you - it will try its hardest to resist what you are trying to do.

I really do believe in you as do the others from this site. I love you There are suggestions in the book for times such as these with different versions of the diet and also just jumping to the consolidation phase. Wishing you the very best. Heidi

At least you are coming on line and getting motivation from all of us, so that is a good thing to do.

You need to tell your husband to be less loving and stop taking you out for meals I think, even though it is sweet of him. This diet is like all other diets in that you just CANNOT change it around all the time to suit yourself, you have to be really committed and go for it, hard though it may be. Even though it is so hard for me to loose weight 8lb in 3 weeks (and I have stuck to the diet rigidly) I know that if I stick to what Dr Dukan advises, eventually, even if it takes months, I will get rid of my extra weight. If he has taken 35 years to perfect this diet he does know what he is talking about, so we are just re-inventing the wheel if we alter it to suit our day to day socialising with friends and family. Why dont you try re-starting the diet, you are already 4lb down, If all of us on the forum can stick to it, I know you can. Go for it girlie.
